Bagini Glacier & Changbang Base Camp Trek

The mountains of Uttarakhand are quite famous in India for undertaking trekking expeditions. Bagini Glacier is located in the mountains of Eastern Garhwal. It is an 8 day trek and covers a distance of 45 kms on whole. This is one of the easiest of all treks in Uttarakhand. The trails are clear and easy to walk on and also, the mount is not very steep.

The Bagini Glacier Trek starts from Jumma village, which is few kms from Joshimath. Joshimath is a small town in Uttarakhand, can be reached by road from Haridwar or Rishikesh. The day one would begin with a ride from Haridwar to Joshimath. Spend your day in Joshimath if you have time. On the second day, hikers will be taken from Joshimath to Jumma village via Jeep or any available vehicle. The trek starts from Jumma to the uninhabited village of Ruing. On day 3 you will trek to Dronagiri village. Day 4 will be a long day; you will have to reach Bagini base camp via Longatulli plains. The next day you will Trek to Bagini Glacier and Changbang and back to the Bagini base camp. On this day you will cover the maximum distance comparatively and Changbang will be the last destination of the trek as well. The next couple of days will be a steady descent from the Base camp to Dronagiri village and thence to Ruing village. You will reach Ruing village by day 6. On day 7 you will get back to Joshimath via Jumma and from Joshimath to Haridwar, the following day.

The trek is most suitable for beginners and acclimatization is also not required. The preferable seasons for this trek are May and June and September and October. The air gets thicker in the winter months thus making the trek difficult. The maximum attitude you will reach in this Trekking expedition is 14,816 ft above sea level. Make sure you carry the right clothes and shoes along. An ankle support trekking shoes is must for this journey.
